Too excited. Can’t analyze. Will just copy and paste information from Robyn’s website.

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Due to an abundance of great songs bursting to get out 2010 will see Robyn release not one, not two, but three albums. The first, Body Talk PT 1, will be released on June 14th with the single Dancing On My Own released the same day (add to Facebook).

Robyn explains: “I got all these great songs so why not? It’s been 5 years since “Robyn” and I didn’t want to wait with a release until they are all recorded, so I decided to start putting them out right away. I also can’t wait to play live again and this enables me to tour and record at the same time. I just want to keep making music!”

Body Talk PT 1 Full tracklisting:
1. Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do
2. Fembot
3. Dancing On My Own
4. Cry When You Get Older
5. Dance Hall Queen
6. None Of Dem
7. Hang With Me (acoustic)
8. Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa

Robyn has worked with the hottest producers around to make these ambitious plans a reality. Diplo, Röyksopp, Kleerup and Klas Åhlund (amongst others) are all on board.

Go visit Robyn.com to hear “None Of Dem,” a new track featuring Roysöpp and even film yourself listening to it for the site’s gallery.  Neat thing, that.

M.I.A talks about Lady Gaga (And So Do I)

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

I’m not a huge fan of Lady Gaga despite her seeming to fall directly into my wheelhouse of electronic pop. When questioned by people who question such things, I’ve always responded that she isn’t doing anything new, despite her attention to detail in her presentation through video, live appearances, etc. M.I.A. (whom, frankly, I can only take in small doses but I appreciate what she’s doing) spoke pretty eloquently about Stefani Germanotta’s alter ego to NME and Oh No They Didn’t was kind enough to transcribe it.

Again, there’s Lady Gaga – people say we’re similar, that we both mix all these things in the pot and spit them out differently, but she spits it out exactly the same! None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is. She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music, you know? She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic. She sounds more like me than I fucking do! That’s a talent and she’s got a great team behind her, but she’s the industry last’s stab at making itself important – saying, ‘You need our money behind you, the endorsements, the stadiums’ Respect to her, she’s keeping a hundred thousand people in work, but my belief is: Do It Yourself.

I’m not sure if M.I.A. and Lady Gaga sound alike at all, as they work in different time signatures and have different vocal strengths, but the core of her statement is very true. The first time I heard “Bucky Done Gun,” I felt like I was hearing something new, a piece of polyglot music that covered multiple cultures even as it cut to the same dancefloor where The Chemical Brothers had thrilled people. In comparison, “Poker Face” sounded like a Garageband demo that someone had juiced with enough payola to get radio play, and no matter how fabulous her costuming or innovative her stage show, I can’t take Gaga’s music seriously, either as pop spectacle or artistic endeavor.

KRAFTWERK: Electro Pioneers, living legends and globally revered masters of electronic sound, celebrate the 35th anniversary of their landmark 1974 hit ‘Autobahn’ by releasing digitally remastered versions of eight astounding albums on 5th October 2009. Rolling back musical barriers with every forward-thinking phase of their career, Dusseldorf’s Zen masters of electronic minimalism laid the foundations for four decades of computerised pop and dance music. By chain reaction and mutation, they have influenced generations of artists in all genres, mapping musical futures yet to come. From Bowie to Daft Punk, Aphex Twin to Portishead, Dr Dre to LCD Soundsystem, and almost everyone in between, the mark of Kraftwerk is endless, endless.

In 2009 Kraftwerk have upgraded their Kling Klang masters with the latest studio technology and these eight magnificent recordings still sound like nothing else in the history of music. Kraftwerk are unique, pristine, profound and beautiful. Decades may pass, but their streamlined synthetic symphonies stand outside time, as fresh as tomorrow, transcendent and sublime.

Goldie Lookin’ Chain are Big Bloody Kids

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

…They’ve got a new single coming out 28th September – a more old-school sound than they’ve had before – and they just couldn’t resist doing something silly with the website.

Go here for a chance to insert yourself crudely into the band.

Calvin Harris, “Ready For The Weekend”

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

That chorus is begging for a full on 90s Epic Progressive Remix, isn’t it?

Kid British, “Our House Is Dadless”

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Perky inner-city not-very-hardcore rap act Kid British’s new single, “Our House Is Dadless” is out today for download and that.

Riffing off a Madness sample, and showing that it’s possible to be perky when you live in a slightly dodgy area, this shouldn’t work, but it is stupid catchy, making you want to hear it again, and also nostalgic for the original, all in one:

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltPxz4PinDA]

Their Twitter profile says:

“Kid British create their own noise by mixing a bit of this with a bit of that and ending up with one big fat MANKY sandwich!”

… And that’s about right. They owe more to De La Soul and Collapsed Lung than Public Enemy and Dr Dre, but that is officially NOT A BAD THING.

Website, here.

“ABC,” “Rock With You,” “Beat It,” and “The Way You Make Me Feel” are all classic records, but our favorite moment featuring the now-deceased King of Pop is from the third stage of his career, when Jarvis Cocker decided to have a laugh as Michael pranced on stage at the Brits with a bunch of children, miming the excruciating “Earth Song.”
