A Hickey From Kenickie Is Like A Hallmark Card
Dear readers, if you will indulge me for a moment… it’s an off-kilter romance kind of week:

In the nineties, Lauren Laverne was lo-fi indie-pop front-lassie for the band Kenickie, and it was smart of Mint Royale to swoop her up into a dancehall-electronica hug for this track, before she gave up on the singing and headed to the BBC to become a TV presenter.
The song, on the surface, is such a pretty sounding love ditty vocally that you’d be forgiven for getting a sentimental attachment to it, but as Kieron Gillen drunkenly suggests, it’s bittersweet all the way through. Still, it’s in rotation here at the moment, so I share it with you.
